March Event!
We so excited to announce our guest author next month, Jamie Sandefer. The theme of this story hour will be family and the nurturing care and structure family provides.
For our March event we will have two identical readings one hour apart.
On Thursday, March 30th 2023 @ 9:30am and 10:30am.
A local author and friend, Jamie Sandefer, will be joining us to read from her book, “Love You From Right Here.”
Jamie will be reading from the first edition shown below.
The second book we will read is a Brave Book called, “Because You are My Family,” by Missy Robertson.
We decided to pair the books together because the main characters are adopted or in foster care, although neither book specifically mentioned foster care or adoption. The theme of this story hour will be family and the nurturing care and structure family provides.
The following discussion questions come from, “Because You are My Family.” We will only have time to discuss a few of the questions.
In the book, Valor had to do chores before he could go play pirates. Why was it important for him to help his family before going off to play?
When Fiona asked Valor to gather carrots, what did he do? How did Arthur and Fiona feel about this?
Why was it wrong for Valor to hide the carrots?
Was Valor purposely being mean and deceptive when he hid the carrots? Why did he choose to do that?
(Scriptures that may be read: 1Peter 2:1, 1 Peter 2:21-25, Luke 22:54-62, John 21:1-19)
Why should you serve people when they are sick?
In the book did Valor only serve his parents because they were sick? What’s another reason he served them?
What should our attitude for serving others, whether they are sick or healthy? Why should we choose to serve?
What are some ways you can serve your friends, neighbors, and family?
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
“In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:10-11
We hope you have wonderful discussions at home as well, encouraging and strengthening family bonds.
Looking forward to seeing you in March!
