Kirk Cameron's newest BRAVE Book is in the library; meanwhile Marty Machowski's book, God Made Boys and Girls is not yet approved,

On Wednesday, September 6th, I dropped off two books for review with a note for the library director. I asked if these two books could be reviewed for placement, Pride Comes Before the Fall, by Kirk Cameron, and God Made Boys and Girls by Marty Machowski. I asked if two copies of the first book would be received, and would the library please receive 7 donated copies of the latter for placement?
I have been requesting the book, God Made Boys and Girls, Helping Children Understand the Gift of Gender, by Marty Machowski since August 3rd. At the time there were no books to balance the children’s books (now over 40 unique titles) teaching alternate gender ideology. Since I made this first request, the Brave Book, Elephants are Not Birds, has been place in our libraries. This book is abstract, much like the book, Itty-Bitty Kitty Corn. We do not have any children’s books that teach gender from the traditional view.
In April, the reason I was given for not purchasing this book, God Made Boys and Girls, is because none of the approved vendors sell this book. The commissioners fixed that on July 11th when they asked the purchasing agent to expand the approved vendors so the library director could balance the library.
Not expecting this book to be purchased, I asked if it could be donated, 7 copies, one for each Montgomery County library location. I was told that the books had been sent to the acquisitions department for review. Wonderful, so I waited.
Last week, the week before Brave Books planned to bring Kirk Cameron to The Woodlands, I learned that his book that I had dropped off, Pride Comes Before the Fall, was being processed for shelving. The book was sent to the South Regional Library Branch, in The Woodlands, where Kirk Cameron was scheduled to read.
I immediately scrambled to drop off the second copy for placement, provided by Brave Books (thank you). This book has not been processed yet, but perhaps this is because the library system just purchased an ENORMOUS number of books with the fiscal year ending, so I’m sure the acquisitions department is currently swimming in books to prepare for the shelves.
Therefore, I believe it would be a good idea to give them a bit more time and see if God Made Boys and Girls, Helping Children Understand the Gift of Gender, by Marty Machowski is approved. This book was dropped off at the same time as the first copy of Pride Comes Before the Fall, so it would be a reasonable assumption that they would be processed around the same time.
If Marty Machowski’s book is not processed, the next step will be to review his book thoroughly here on the substack and consider why it might have been denied.
In the meantime, here is an article about how the Brave Books story hour went this past weekend. Trent Talbot, Brave Book’s CEO, and State Representative Steve Toth both did a wonderful job reading and discussing conservative values with our kids. Thank you for caring for our community.
